about us...home

Lansdowne High School opened its doors in 1963 with a student body that consisted of 10th and 11th graders. Its teachers offered students a college preparatory course of instruction. Over the years, LHS, the home of the Vikings, added 9th graders to its student body and expanded its programs to include a host of educational opportunities for students, including academic, commercial, and vocational courses. Since its opening in 1963, LHS has constantly striven to provide its students with the coursework necessary to enter post-secondary education and the work force.

In the 2004-2005 school year, Lansdowne High School, under the leadership of principal, Thomas DeHart, received a U.S. Department of Education Federal Grant and began its journey to become a whole magnet school, Lansdowne High School Academy for Advanced Professional Studies. In addition to an already existing magnet program, the Academy of Finance, LHS now offers its students academy programs in Arts & Communication, Business, Engineering, Science, & Technology, and Health & Human Services.

The four academies at Lansdowne High School Academy for Advanced Professional Studies offer students traditional college preparatory instruction plus a concentrated focus in the area of their choice. Students will also have the opportunity to explore career options, job shadow and intern in their chosen field, and even earn college credit while still in high school.

Lansdowne High School Academy for Advanced Professional Studies proudly meets the challenge of preparing today’s youth to take their places in the world.

The LHS Shield, installed in the main lobby floor, bears the school ‘s Latin motto, “By Deeds, Not by Words.” The special floor tile with the shield was a gift to the school from the class of 1971.
